June 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

More trouble is in the offing for Nestle whose Maggie Noodles has stirred a controversy over the presence of lead.

Food Safety Officers on Tuesday seized three samples of Nestle Milk Powder for children in Coimbatore. This followed a complaint given by a consumer that the powder contained insects. The samples provided by the consumer was not accepted as he had opened the package already. Hence, the officials took fresh samples on Tuesday.

A senior official said that the samples will be tested at the Government Food Safety Laboratory here. Coimbatore has one of the six laboratories accredited under the Food Safety and Standards Act.

Further legal action would be contemplated after the test results of the samples taken by officers arrive. This is expected to take several days.

The samplers were lifted under the instructions of Tamil Nadu Food Safety Commissioner Kumar Jayant.
