Action sought against MLA, outfits

Indu Makkal Katchi-Tamizhagam has urged the State Government to act against Member of Legislative Assembly from Ambur Aslam Basha and various Muslim organisations that allegedly instigated violence.

In its petition, presented by Coimbatore district president V.V. Manickam, the organisation said that the MLA and organisations were behind torching buses, attacking police station and assaulting policemen. In the interest of restoring normality, the government must arrest the MLA under the National Security Act, equip the policemen there with sophisticated weapons to repulse any such attacks and also provide compensation to those who were injured and who lost property.

‘Act against H. Raja’

Members of the National Women’s Front on Monday submitted a petition to the Collector asking her to forward their petition seeking action against BJP leader H. Raja for his alleged comments on Muslim women wearing hijab.In their petition, they said that the women hearing the headgear and burqa was something that was guaranteed under the Constitution as their religion mandated women the dress code. Plus, it guaranteed Muslim a sort of protection when violence against women was on the increase.

At this juncture, it was unfortunate that Mr. Raja had chosen to provoke Muslims by his comments on their dress code. In the interest of preserving peace, the Government must act against him by charging him with provisions of the National Security Act, they said.

Warning

Residents of Kannampalayam Town Panchayat led by their chairperson ‘Thalapathy’ Murugesan submitted a petition to the district administration seeking action against industries that discharged effluents into River Noyyal. They said that as a result of the rains in catchments, there was water flow in River Noyyal. But the water was contaminated with effluents from dyeing units that operated illegally and industries that discharged waste water.

The result was that groundwater in areas that abut the River Noyyal was polluted. In the interest of the people who live along the river banks, the district administration should act against the industries. If not, the people would stage a protest to protect their livelihood.

TPDK plea

Remove conservancy workers from all the cleaning operations the Coimbatore Corporation does. Instead, automate the entire process and rehabilitate the workers by offering them other jobs that suited their educational qualification, said the Thanthai Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam in a petition presented on Monday to the District Collector at the weekly grievances day meeting.

Demand

Members of the AITUC construction workers wing submitted a petition to the district administration seeking action against a husband-wife duo, which had cheated a few construction materials suppliers.

By furnishing the names of the duo, the petitioners said that they had cleared the dues of those who had supplied concrete rings, cement bags, hollow blocks and the mason. When the four asked money, the duo threatened them with police complaint.
