A seven-member delegation from NIFT-TEA College of Knitwear Fashion, promoted by Tirupur Exporters Association, has embarked on a trip to Germany to understand the latest trends in fashion designing.

“Tirupur is a prominent knitwear cluster that excels in production aspects. However, the cluster has a long way to go in developing innovative fashion concepts. Germany has made gigantic strides in those areas and hence the visit”, Arundhati Ghoshal, head of the Department of Apparel Fashion Design at NIFT-TEA Institute, and who leads the entourage, told The Hindu just before leaving for Germany on Wednesday.

The trip is partly funded by the college.

Team members

The other team members were P. Siva Sangavi, Arun Mozhi Varman, Niruparani, Nandhini Priya, S. Janasuba and P. Vignesh Deva, students pursuing postgraduate and undergraduate courses at the Institute.

The highlight of the German expedition will be a visit to the design studio of the renowned sportswear manufacturer Adidas.

“Visit to the Adidas studio will provide a rare opportunity to get an insight into one of the best think-tanks in fashion concepts. To understand the nuances of emerging fashion trends from such a facility and carry back the concepts to Tirupur will help the cluster here to produce innovative designs meant for global niche markets”, said R. Shrinivasan, chairman of Academic Committee at NIFT-TEA Institute.

Interaction

The team from here also would be interacting with the researchers and students of B5 Modeschulen Nurnberg Fashion School in Germany.

A visit planned to Levi Strauss Museum at Buttenheim, built in memory of German –American Levi Strauss who founded the first company to manufacture blue jeans, would provide a different experience of sorts to the students.
