Agrahara Nattamangalam, a village in Ayothiapattinam union, in the district has been identified by the Department of Adi Dravidars and Tribal Welfare of Tamil Nadu Government for its endeavour in eradicating the scourge of untouchability and fostering religious amity for 2009-10.
Collector J. Chandrakumar handed over a cheque for Rs. 1 lakh to village president N. Senthamarai just prior to the weekly grievances day meet here on Monday.
The sum would be utilised in the village for providing drinking water facilities, road upgradation works, renovation of school buildings, construction of buildings for school and children welfare centre and installing street lights.
Petitions
Later at the meeting, the Collector received 447 petitions from the public, mainly seeking ration cards, patta transfers, caste certificates, land measurements and old age pensions.
District Revenue Officer V. Kalai Arasi, SP N. M. Myilvahanan, DC (Law and Order) Y. John Nicholson and others took part in the meeting.
