Demanding immediate action against a Sub-Inspector, who allegedly attacked the Village Administrative Officer of Kokkarayanpettai, VAOs staged protest in Tiruchengode here on Friday.

On Thursday, free dhotis and saris were distributed at a public distribution outlet in Ammasipalayam in Pallipalayam Union by saleswoman Sabetha (40). Since the stocks have run out, she approached VAO Thirumaran for more dhotis and saris. But an altercation broke between the two and Thirumaran scolded her.

Sabetha lodged a complaint with the Molasi police station. Sub-Inspector Magudapathi came to the VAO office and questioned him. It is said that an altercation broke between them and the SI allegedly assaulted the VAO. The Pallipalayam police pacified them. Later, stating that the VAO attacked him, Magudapathi got admitted to Government Headquarters Hospital in Erode.

On Friday, a peace meeting, chaired by District Revenue Officer K. Palanisamy, Tiruchengode Revenue Divisional Officer G. Mahatma and DSP Suresh Kumar was held. It was decided to initiate action against the Sub-Inspector. However, the VAOs refused to accept the decision and staged a protest.
