A summer camp on photography organised by The Hindu in association with Savithri Photo House was inaugurated at Perks Higher Secondary School on Monday. Over 50 children are taking part in the camp to be held till May 14. It is being organised for the second year in succession by The Hindu .
Inaugurating the camp, chief guest R.Tolstoy, nature photographer, and Associate Professor for Medicine, PSG Hospital, exhorted the students to have a hobby to spend their leisure hours usefully.
He noted that he was happy to see a number of them opting to have photography as their hobby. The effect and subject of a photograph could do wonders, he added.
The camp is held for two hours a day. Every day, the class will be followed by a question and answer session with prizes from Savithri Photo House, besides contests for the students.
After the inauguration on Monday, the class began with instructions given to the students on the technical aspects of photography by D.Srinivasen, a professional photographer. An interactive session and a competition followed.
Mr. Srinivasen will speak to the students on the various aspects of photography every day.
Though, most of the students were not interested in professional photography everyone wanted to pursue photography as a hobby. One of the participants, Sharath said that he got the inspiration from his brother Arvind. “I will take up photography as a profession,” he added.
“I am interested in wildlife photography,” said Shriranjini, a student of Air Force School.
The participants were assured of very purposeful learning sessions on photography over the next four days.
Regional General Manager of The Hindu , D. Rajkumar welcomed the gathering.
