Students cherish village culture at expo

Sami tea stall and a bicycle puncture shop were at the entrance of the school to welcome public for the ‘Namma Gramam’ expo organised by National Model Matriculation Higher Secondary School on their premises here on Saturday. It was an event aimed at helping the city’s new generation enjoy the village ambience.

The school ground was converted into a mini village that had stalls and shops that were selling snacks and food items that are not commonly available in eateries in the city. Students entertained audience with their folk dance performances. Class 10 student C. Ilakiya, who was dressed up as a 60-year-old woman, sold flowers for Rs. 700 and even blessed buyers.

It was a different experience for seventh standard students Varun and Arjun to ride a coconut leaf with the other pulling it. Children could play as many as 17 village games by paying just Rs. 50. There were around 15 other paid events.Principal of National Model CBSE School Geetha Laxman said that the event was organised by the higher secondary commerce group students.

The profit generated from the exhibition will be handed over to Coimbatore Cancer Foundation.
