On a day's visit to the city on Thursday, Deputy Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called on the parents of two school students who were abducted and found murdered last month.

After attending a mass wedding organised for poor couples by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, he drove down to the house of the children on Range Gowder Street to call on the parents Ranjith, a textile merchant, and Sangeetha to offer his condolences. A large number of relatives and friends of the family were present.

Mr. Stalin was accompanied by Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy, Mayor R. Venkatachalam and DMK functionaries.

The children, a 10-year-old girl and her seven-year-old brother who were studying in a school in the city, were abducted by Mohanraj, a former private cab driver, on October 29. He and his friend Manoharan allegedly tortured the children and drowned them in a canal. The two were arrested. Mohanraj was shot dead by the police in an encounter on November 9.
