Irugur murder: police detain suspects

January 17, 2017 08:20 am | Updated 08:20 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The city police have reportedly detained two suspects in connection with the murder of assistant professor S. Latha (38), whose body was found burnt at her house near Irugur on January 6.

The police said they were verifying the roles of the suspects who are relatives of the deceased.

Latha, who had separated from her husband around four years ago, was living alone at IOB Colony.

She was a faculty-cum-research scholar with Chikkanna Government Arts College, Tirupur.

The accused had murdered Latha by slitting her throat, and later burnt the body using fuel.

The needle of suspicion was on persons known to Latha as the accused had easy entry to the house without trespassing.

The police could also figure out that it was not a murder for gain as the ornaments worn by Latha were intact except a chain that was lifted in an attempt to misguide the investigators.

Special teams

Four special teams formed for the investigation were closely watching the movements of people associated with Latha before zeroing on the two suspects.
