Entrepreneurs and industrialists should make optimum use of the facilities being extended by the government for generating employment and improving the economy of the district, said the Nilgiris Collector Archana Patnaik here on Wednesday.
Inaugurating a meeting to enhance awareness about the opportunities available for promoting industries organized by the District Industries Centre (DIC) here on Thursday, she pointed out that there were about 120 private tea factories and 17 Industrial Cooperative (INDCO) tea factories in the district.
In addition to all these, there were a number of essential oil manufacturing units.
In all there were about 3,500 medium, small and tiny registered industrial units in the district.
Among them were food preservation companies and facilities which manufactured home-made chocolates.
Pointing out that assistance was being extended to entrepreneurs through various agencies, she said that among them were the DIC, Mahalir Thittam, TAHDCO, Department for Backward Classes and banks.
A number of schemes were being implemented by the Small Industries Development Bank of India, Tamil Nadu Industrial Investment Corporation, National Small Industries Corporation etc.
Ms.Patnaik lamented that many were still not aware of such schemes.
