Acquisition notification of land to be revoked

July 18, 2010 02:11 pm | Updated 02:11 pm IST - Coimbatore:

Chairman of the Veerakeralam Municipality T. Bhaktavatchalam quoting the Agriculture Minister, has announced that lands in Vadavalli and Veerakeralam notified for acquisition by the Tamil Nadu Housing Board are being exempted.

Speaking at the inauguration of the ‘Uzhavar Sandhai' at Vadavalli, Agriculture Minister, Veerapandi Arumugam said that steps were taken in 1981 for acquisition of 735 acres in Vadavalli and Veerakeralam area. Since the compensation was inadequate, land owners moved the Court and the verdict came in favour of them. The Housing Board later went on an appeal.

Though the acquisition notifications were issued in 1981, neither the housing board utilised the lands nor allowed the land owners to use the same.

The same was brought to the notice of the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister through the Rural Industries and Agriculture Minister. Acting on the representation, the Government has taken a policy decision to revoke the acquisition notification thus restoring the lands to the owners.

A notification to this effect is expected shortly.
