The two accused arrested in connection with the kidnapping, torture, sexual assault and murder of two siblings were subjected to a series of medical tests at Coimbatore Medical College Hospital on Thursday.
Van driver Mohanraj and his accomplice Manoharan were brought in amid tight police security.
Security tightened
On hearing the news, the public who were there at the hospital raised slogans against them and hurled eggs. As the crowd remained furious and surcharged, police presence was increased. City Police Commissioner C. Sylendra Babu supervised crowd control measures.
The medical tests took three-and-a-half hours and the accused were subjected to pathology, radiology, urology and forensic medicine tests. The objective was to assess their health and ascertain their age.
The forensic tests were for obtaining semen samples for proving their involvement in the sexual assault. The accused were later taken back to Coimbatore Central prison.
Police sources said that the special team constituted for the purpose under the leadership of Assistant Commissioner of Police K. Kumarasamy are speeding up the investigations so that the charge-sheet could be filed before November 30 to get the case committed for trial at the earliest.
