A sum of ₹ 9.55 lakh was reported missing from a mobile Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of the Erode District Central Cooperative Bank Limited here on Friday.

On Wednesday, ₹ 10 lakh was loaded in the ATM and the vehicle moved on to many places across the city. On Friday evening, the ATM van was stationed at the municipal bus stand when the supervisor and the driver noticed smoke emanating from the uninterrupted power supply (UPS) system. The smoke was put out, but the cable that linked the battery with the UPS was damaged completely. Hence, the van was taken to the bank located on Bhavani Road.

On verifying, bank officials found that withdrawals for ₹45,000 had been done in two days, but the balance ₹ 9.55 lakh was missing. On being informed, the police picked up three workers of the bank for inquiry.
