73-year-old man beaten to death

June 04, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:41 am IST - COIMBATORE:

M. Arunachalam (73), a watchman, was allegedly beaten to death on Malumichampatti Bodipalyam Road on Wednesday by C. Arumugam, a mason from Manapparai in Tiruchi.

According to police, it was suspected that Arunachalam’s son A. Vignesh had an extra-martial affair with Arumugam’s wife Manju and had eloped with her about eight months ago. The accused had three children.

Unable to bear the humiliation, Arumugam returned to Tiruchi with his children.

He was arrested by the police there in connection with theft cases and was granted bail a couple of weeks ago.

Police said on Tuesday Arumugam went to Arunachalam’s house to look out for Vignesh and Manju.

As they were not there, Arumugam went to the place where Arunachalam was working and allegedly attacked him with a knife and fled the place.

Passers-by saw the dead and informed Madukkarai Police. The body was taken to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.

Police are on the look out Arumugam.
