47 breeds take part in Dog Show in Ooty

About 400 dogs belonging to 47 breeds across country took part in the championship events of the dog show organised by the South of India Kennel Club (SIKC) and by the Chennai Canine Club at the Government Arts College in Udhagamandalam, on Saturday and Sunday.

This year three new breeds took part in the show for the first time. They were Welsh Terrier, American Staffordshire and Rhodesian Ridgeback. The additions had taken up the number of breeds participating in the show from 44 in 2014 – to 47 this year.

Other breeds that grabbed the attention of the thousands of onlookers and tourists were Poodle, bull terrier, Newfoundland, Akita, Mudhol Hound, Siberian Husky, Chow Chow, Whippet and Irish Setter. The breed with highest participation was German shepherd.

An Irish Setter of B. Sharath from Bengaluru and German Shepherd of K.E. Ramesh from Chennai were the winners of the 120{+t}{+h}and 121{+s}{+t}championship shows organised by SKIC on Sunday. The Doberman owned by Javinder Pawar from Bengaluru was adjudged winner of both the 1{+s}{+t}and 2{+n}{+d}championship shows organised by Chennai Canine Club and SIKC on Saturday.

Thomas Mathew memorial show was also organised by SIKC on Saturday in memory of an enthusiastic dog lover and active member of the 85 year-old club. A boxer breed dog owned by Aditya Chandra Panda won the Thomas Mathew memorial show. Best puppy of the show for various breeds and best in show puppy were also given away.
