The 33 Squadron or the “Himalayan Geese” of the Indian Air Force celebrated its 47th anniversary on Saturday at the Air Force Station, Sulur.
A re-union was organised to mark the occasion. Air Marshal Sumit Mukerji, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Southern Air Command, was the chief guest.
According to a release, the squadron, formed in 1963, moved to Sulur in 1991.
Since then it has been involved in maintaining the air bridge between the mainland and far-flung islands in the Andaman and Nicobar islands.
The squadron was extensively used for rescue and relief operations during Tsunami.
