Workers of a Tasmac shop in Salem shifting property on Friday after the decision to close it down.

Following the State Government’s decision to close 500 TASMAC shops, and 169 bars across the State, a total of 28 shops was closed in the district here on Friday.

District Collector V. Sampath said that shops located near schools, places of worship, and based on complaints from the general public, 28 shops and seven bars were closed from Friday. It includes, Salem city 6, Omalur 4, Attur 3, Gangavalli 4, Sankari 3, Edappadi 2, Salem Taluk 3 and one each in Vazhapadi, Yercaud and Mettur.

In Namakkal district, 22 shops and 13 bars were closed at various places here from Friday.

A total of 133 shops and 26 bars would be closed in Salem region that includes Salem 28, Dharmapuri 16, Krishnagiri 7, Namakkal 22, Vellore 24, Tiruvannamalai 27 and Arakkonam 9. Officials said that workers of these shops would be allotted other works.
