18 injured as bus hits lorry

As many as 18 passengers were injured when a private bus plying from Bengaluru to Ernakulam hit the rear side of a lorry at Karumathampatti in the early hours of Monday.

The accident happened near a private college on Avinashi-Coimbatore Road at 4 a.m. According to police sources, Gangadaran (26) of Theni was at the wheel of the bus. The front portion of the bus was damaged in the accident. Of the 18 injured, 11 were admitted to Muthus Hospital and remaining seven persons were shifted to Royal Care Hospital. Majority of the injured were from Kerala. The lorry reportedly left the spot soon after the accident. The Karumathampatti police have registered a case.
