119 schools to be issued notices

January 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:34 am IST - COIMBATORE:

The School Education Department will begin issuing on Tuesday the second of the mandatory three notices to 119 primary, nursery and playschools in Coimbatore that had failed to obtain recognition from the State Government.

A total of 309 schools in the district under the scrutiny of the Directorate of Elementary Education were issued notices.

Duplication

While initially, 141 schools had failed to reply, the officials found that there were several instances of duplication. Schools that had two premises or had shifted to new location were mentioned twice.

Hence, the list now contains 119 schools, which would be asked to show cause as to why they should not be closed down.

If the schools failed to reply or their reply was found to be inadequate, they would be issued the third and final closure notices by January 31, the deadline given to the Directorate by the Madras High Court in a ruling made last year.

However, the schools that are ordered to close would be permitted to run till the end of the current academic year.
