A section of the workers of the 108 GVK EMRI Ambulance Workers have claimed that several of their grievances were not being addressed. Coming together under the 108 Ambulance Thozhilar Sangam, they distributed pamphlets at the Coimbatore Collectorate on Monday during the public grievances meeting. They also wore badges containing a list of demands.
According to the Association, the workers have been demanding eight hours of duty per day instead of the present duration of 12 hours besides a hike in salary. They also claimed that they have been denied Dearness Allowance. They also sought proper shelters for ambulances as it was lacking now in many places. A safe location was needed for cleaning the blood from the ambulances and keeping it free of infection.
Alleging that the management was unresponsive to their demands, the organisation has stated that it would air their grievances to the public on the 8th of every month through pamphlets, fliers and public campaign.
