10 years jail for 2 rape convicts

The Mahila Court Judge of Udhagamandalam M. Sarvamangala on Monday convicted two men and sentenced them to 10 years imprisonment for raping an 18-year-old girl in October 2010. The victim and accused were from a tribal village near Kunjapanai check post.

The prosecution case was that P. Ashok (25), and R. Rajesh (27), and a boy aged 15 abducted her while she was on way home after giving food to her ailing aunt who was admitted to Mettupalayam Government Hospital. They took her to a nearby forest area and raped her.

Villagers found her the next day. The trial of juvenile offender is under way.

Public Prosecutor K. Anandhakrishnan said that a fine of Rs. 10,000 each too has been slapped on them.
