Rectified spirit valued at Rs. 10 lakh were seized from a car at Madukkarai on the city outskirts, when being smuggled to neighbouring Kerala in the early hours of Monday morning.
The seizure was made during intensified vehicle check to prevent smuggling of sand and PDS rice, when the police stopped a speeding car near the checkpost, police sources said.
On checking, 20 cans, each containing 35 litres of spirit, were found hidden in the car and the driver was arrested, they said.
