March 05, 2012 09:54 am | Updated November 17, 2021 12:53 am IST - COIMBATORE:

Indian Union Muslim League has urged the Union Government to relax the passport rules for Haj pilgrims.

In a release the League's State Secretary J. Mohammad Rafi said that the government should help the pilgrims get passports that would enable them to travel to all countries, after the government had selected their applications for the pilgrimage. It said that the elderly pilgrims and those from the middle and poor economic background were finding it difficult to secure passports.

The government should instead revert to the old system of issuing passports.
