An irate mob of suspected CPM activists from tribal Talasari taluka allegedly attacked a BJP leader from Thane district, police said on Tuesday.

The mob armed with leathal weapons attacked Louis Kakkad, who has been active in the growth of the BJP in Talasari and routing the CPM, on Monday evening.

The BJP and the CPM are said to be at loggerheads due to various reasons and the recent Zilla Parishad and Panchayat elections has aggravated the situation.

According to the complaint lodged by the party office bearer, he and his car was attacked with stones in the Dapchari Thakurpada hamlet by the mob including Vivek Halad, Umesh Halad and Raja Dumada.

The CPM activists were enraged as Kakkad worked for BJP in the taluka and helped it grow in the region, it said.

The Talasari police have registered an offence under various sections against the trio and the mob.

However, no arrests have been made so far.
