Truckers' stir threat

July 27, 2010 11:44 pm | Updated 11:44 pm IST - New Delhi:

The All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) on Tuesday threatened to launch a strike from August 6 to protest against the present toll policy and press for lower toll rates.

AIMTC president G.R. Shanmugappa said about 62 lakh truckers would stop plying from that day.

They were incurring a loss of Rs. 5000 crore a day due to the flawed toll policy, he said adding that repeated pleas to rationalise the toll policy were ignored by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
