Shoma, Monalisa to share Chameli Devi award

Tehelka Executive Editor Shoma Chaudhury and Nagaland Page Editor Monalisa Changkija will share the Chameli Devi Jain Award for Outstanding Woman Mediapersons for 2009.

The award is given annually by The Media Foundation for excellence, impact, social concern, innovation, style and originality of work in the print or broadcast medium.

This year's jury consisted of columnist and author Madhu Jain; the former Doordarshan Director-General, Bhaskar Ghose; and Senior Fellow at the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Dipankar Gupta.

The award will be presented here on March 17.

The presentation will be followed by a panel discussion on ‘the Influence of Public Relations on Journalism'.

The Media Foundation, which has been giving the award every year since 1981, was instituted by the family of Chameli Devi Jain, who was among those who responded actively to Mahatma Gandhi's call and participated in the freedom struggle, says a release from eminent journalist and its Chairman, B.G. Verghese.
