Heatwave returns to north

After a respite, heatwave was back in north India on Tuesday, with the mercury touching the 45-degree Celsius mark at a number of places.

Even Shimla, a summer resort in Himachal Pradesh, recorded 29.4 degree Celsius, a notch above Monday's temperature. Una was the hottest place in the hilly State, recording 42.2 degree Celsius followed by Mandi 39.4, Sundernagar 39.1 and Nahan 37.6.

In the plains, Churu in Rajasthan was the hottest at 45.4. Sriganganagar registered 45.2, Pilani, Kota, Bikaner, Jaipur and Barmer reeled at 43.7, 43.5, 42.7, 42.4 and 42.2 respectively.

In Delhi, the maximum temperature rose to 44.1 degree, against 42.5 recorded on Monday. The minimum settled at 28 degree.

In Punjab and Haryana, Ludhiana and Hissar sizzled at 45 degree. Blistering heat swept through Amritsar and Patiala, which recorded 44.6 degree and 44 degree.

Ambala registered 43.5 degree, up by three degrees, and Karnal recorded 43.2 degree, also three degrees above normal.
