David Cameron arriving today

July 26, 2010 11:52 pm | Updated 11:52 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

British Prime Minister David Cameron, along with a large delegation comprising Cabinet Ministers and businessmen, will arrive in Bangalore on Tuesday to reinvigorate bilateral ties.

The Conservative-Liberal Democrats ruling alliance wants to reset British-India ties as it feels the previous Labour governments did not nurture the relationship as they should have.

The list of the accompanying Cabinet Ministers provides a fair idea of the subjects on which the British are keen on ensuring a closer and cooperative relationship with India. Mr. Cameron will be accompanied by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, Business Minister Vince Cable, Foreign Minister William Hague, Culture Minister Jeremy Hunt, Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change Gregory Barker, and Minister of State for Universities and Science David Willetts.

A delegation of senior British business executives, academics, civil society leaders, sport and cultural figures will also accompany the Prime Minister.

Mr. Cameron's programme in Bangalore includes visits to the HAL, Infosys, Narayana Health City and a meeting with Karnataka Governor H.R. Bhardwaj before he reaches New Delhi for official engagements on Thursday.

Besides delegation-level talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Mr. Cameron will call on President Pratibha Patil and Vice-President Hamid Ansari. External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna will call on him.

The British business delegation will participate in business events organised by the apex industrial chambers here.
