Crime branch to probe Thekkady boat tragedy

The government has ordered an enquiry by the Crime Branch into the boat tragedy at Thekkady in Kerala.

The Kottayam unit of the Crime Branch will be conducting the enquiry.The case registered by the local police will be transferred to the unit for further enquiry, official sources here said.

Meanwhile, search operations have resumed for victims of the accident in the Periyar Reservoir. While 41 bodies have been recovered so far, four more are believed to be missing. The search is hampered by inclement weather and poor visibility.

Official sources here said that the bodies of people belonging to Tamil Nadu have already been dispatched to their native places for burial. Bodies of people belonging to Andhra Pradesh and Delhi have been sent by air.
