The Crime Branch CID police on Friday issued summons to actor-politician Vijayakanth to provide information on the double murder case in Neelangarai in which a gunman shot dead an aged couple and injured three others on Monday.

According to sources in the agency, the Desiya Murpoku Dravidar Kazhagam leader had issued a statement, published in a section of the media, that crucial evidence in the case was concealed. He had also claimed that relatives of some persons holding important positions in the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam regime were involved in the crime. There was a suspicion among the people that Rajan alias Shanmugasundaram revealed the names of some important persons in the ruling party before his death in police custody.

“We have issued summons to Mr. Vijayakanth asking him to appear before us and provide concrete information in the case. Summons have also been served on a few others,” a CBCID official said.
