In Uttar Pradesh Governor Ram Naik unfurled the national flag at the sprawling Raj Bhawan, while Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath led the festivities at his 5, Kalidas Marg residence under an overcast sky.
The main function was at the Vidhan Sabha Marg where the ceremonial parade was held. Mr. Naik took the salute as Lieutenant Colonel Rakyansh Yaduvanshi of the 16 Jat Regiment lead the ceremonial parade.
Mr. Naik said this year’s Republic Day was special as two major events were taking place. The first being the Kumbh in Prayagraj and the second, the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls.
Mr. Adityanath, many from his cabinet, bureaucrats and senior police officers were present.
Punjab, Haryana and the Union Territory of Chandigarh joined the nation in celebrating the 70th Republic Day, amid tight security arrangements.
Police, home guards and NCC contingents were among other participants in the parades held in district headquarters in the two States and their joint capital Chandigarh.
V P Singh Badnore, the Punjab Governor and administrator of Chandigarh, unfurled the national flag in a state-level function in Hoshiarpur.
Haryana Governor Satyadeo Narain Arya unfurled the national flag at Panchkula.
Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh unfurled the national flag in Patiala, while Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar unfurled the tricolour in Bhiwani.
Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala unfurled the tricolour at the historic Manekshaw Parade ground in Bengaluru on the 70th Republic Day.
The Governor highlighted various development schemes of the state government including the crop loan waiver scheme and pure drinking water project in the rural areas. “Government is implementing Compete with China scheme,” he told the gathering.
A mesmerising cultural programme along with an impressive march past followed the Governor’s speech. Children from various schools presented patriotic theme-based dance and drama.
At the end of the event, Governor Vala distributed ’Sarottam Seva’ awards and prizes to the winners.
Chief minister H D Kumaraswamy, BJP state chief B S Yeddyurappa and several other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
Maharashtra Governor Ch Vidyasagar Rao addressed a gathering at the Shivaji Park after reviewing the parade. In his speech he said that the State has received $13.5 billion Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) this financial year.
“Maharashtra has received 30 per cent of the FDI which came to India. I am sure, Maharashtra will become the first trillion dollar economy state by 2025. The government is also committed to further improving the ease of doing business in the state.
"With a view to provide weather-related information to farmers in real time, project Mahavedh has been made operational in all 2,060 revenue circles in the State," he said.
Governor Banwarilal Purohit led the 70th Republic Day celebrations in Tamil Nadu, hoisting the national flag at Marina here to mark the occasion.
Mr. Purohit took the salute and led the proceedings, including the parade by Army and Navy contingents.
The celebrations were attended by Chief Minister K Palaniswami, Deputy Chief Minister O Panneerselvam and a host of other people, including state Ministers, MPs, MLAs and government officials.
In his address after unfurling the national flag at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation Stadium, governor E.S.L Narasimhan said AP has emerged as the best economic performer by registering an average growth of 10.52 per cent against the all-India growth rate of 7.3 per cent.
Andhra Pradesh is poised to spearhead the country’s efforts in leveraging technology for development and governance and in enhancing happiness levels of people despite “hostile treatment” by the Centre and a “non-conducive” atmosphere, the Governor added.
Tripura Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki today stressed on the need for cordial relations with the neighbouring Bangladesh for development of transport routes that would benefit the state as well as the entire north eastern region.
Addressing the 70th Republic Day function at the Assam Rifles Ground here after unfurling the Tri-colour, Solanki said a new waterway is being set up between Bangladesh and Tripura to make the state a trade hub.
Governor of Bihar Lalji Tandon addressed the Republic Day celebration at Gandhi Maidan in Patna. Several contingents of CRPF, CISF, SSB, NDRF, among others, took part in the parade followed by cultural celebration which included tableaux showcasing rich heritage of the State. The celebration was in accordance with this year's theme which is, 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
