During the 41st session of UNESCO's World Heritage Committee meet in Krakow in Poland, the 606-year-old walled city of Ahmedabad was declared a World Heritage City. Here are some of the famous monuments you cannot miss in the Gujarat city that's steeped in history.
Bhadra Fort: Built in 1411 by Ahmed Shah I, the founder of Ahmedabad city. Its clock tower was brought from London in 1849 by the East India Company
The Adalaj Vav is an ornate five-storey step-well in the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Built in 1499, its platform rests on 16 pillars with corners marked by shrines
The Jama Masjid, one of the most recognisable monuments in the city. Built in 1424 during the reign of Ahmed Shah I. It has a rectangular prayer room covered by four domes.
The ‘Darwazas’ or gates, marking the glory of the old walled city of Ahmedabad, were formerly built as fortifications by the Mughal rulers who ruled Gujarat from the 15th century. Originally, there were 21 gates in the city embodying the history of the Mughal Sultanate in Gujarat. Some of them include the Kalupur Darwaza and Teen Darwaza.

The Sarkhej Roza mosque is a cluster of monuments. Otherwise known as the Acropolis of Ahmedabad, as the famous architect Le Corbusier once compared the monument to the Acropolis of Athens.
