Welcome the new year by exploring the historical significance of Mamallapuram and Kanchi, through these planned trip packages organised by KeyTerns, a theme-based travel team, in the month of January.

Pallava trail at Mamallapuram

Where did Pallavas come from? Who were the prominent kings and what are their stories? Through this one day trail, KeyTerns takes you on a Pallava trail at Mamallapuram (UNESCO listed heritage site) with an archaeologist providing, historical, archaeological, mythological and architectural insights.

Visit the 7th Century monuments and temples like the Rock-cut architecture, Shore temple, Lighthouse, Tiger caves, Arjuna Penance, Govardhana giri, the pancha rathas, Mahishasura Mardini cave and Varaha cave. And walk around the 2,000-year-old excavated site of Subramaniya Temple. Also, marvel at the Krishna butter ball and the seashell museum.

Kanchi, the land of thousand temples

Do you know which was the first stone architecture-based temple built by Pallavas? Can you name two of India’s popular heritage temples based in South India? Uncover stories that are interwoven with mythological and religious references, in the company of an archeologist, as you visit 7th Century temples like Ekambaranathar, Vaikuntaperumal, Kailasanathar, and Varadharaja Perumal temples. Visit the Kanchi Heritage Museum and watch silk being woven, while trying out Kanchipuram idlis with mint chutney.
