Amruta Walvekar, who runs a luxury gift wrapping venture will be sharing her expertise in Bengaluru this weekend.

She will be conducting two workshops, one on gift wrapping and bow making, and the other on modern calligraphy.

The gift wrapping workshop offers hands-on training with Amruta and her team, will teach different wrapping techniques for boxes, round tins, even a bottle. The bow making aspect of the workshop will teach you how to make five different kinds of bows to add some zing to your gift wrapping. All you need is a paper bag to take back your creations.

The modern calligraphy workshop, on the other hand, will offer a welcome break from the world of digital communication by taking you through the basics of modern calligraphy. Participants will learn everything from ink flow and pen pressure, shapes, and a modern set of alphabets. By the end of the workshop, participants will be practising free letter forms, words and developing their own style. You will be ready to practice on cards, notes, invitations and just about anything else.

You can also take back ink, nibs, paper and other stationery designed by Wrapistry.

“The calligraphy form is inspired by the old European form of copperplate calligraphy. The workshop will allow participants to find their own style, once they learn the skill of using the pen,” explains Amruta, who started the venture out of her love for art, which she has had since childhood. “I have always been good at art since childhood, I never liked any other subject. And so I took some courses in the US and the UK over the past five ears and developed my own style.”

The workshops, says Amruta, offer a hands-on experience with personalised attention.

“Since I have done more workshops abroad, my workshops too offer an international experience. We don’t have demonstrations where people are crowded around the facilitator. We make sure that everyone gets equal attention. The workshops are a great way to begin a hobby.”

The Gift Wrapping and Bow Making Workshop, priced at ₹ 3750 will take place between 8 30 am and 1 pm and the Modern Calligraphy Workshop, priced at ₹ 4000, will take place between 2 pm and 6 pm at Taj Residency, Vivanta by Taj, MG Road.

(The price for the workshop is inclusive of all materials (the full take away kit), instruction guides, a high tea menu, stationery treats from Wrapistry and taxes. Register at www.wrapistry.com/workshops . For details, call 09823981810.)
