Best foot forward

How often do we come across a canine sniffer who comes to work in boots? Rarely so.

Meet Belson, the four-year-old male labrador at the security hold-up area at the Sheraton Gachibowli entryway. At first Belson will look like any other trained canine doing his job of sniffing your vehicle.

The surprise comes when he takes a turn to come and sniff the driver’s seat as well. Turns out, Belson comes to work wearing booties. And he is absolutely comfortable in his shoes.

To lay my curiosity to rest, I strike a conversation with his handler Jay Singh. Jay says he decided to buy Belson booties to protect his feet from Hyderabad’s harsh heat, adding, “I love Belson a lot, he is a good friend and a wonderful colleague. The cemented floor gets very hot for him to walk on. So I wanted to protect his feet. I bought them from a pet store, and since day one he has been absolutely comfortable in them.”

If you happen to be passing by Sheraton, meet Belson and ask him to show off his booties; he will proudly put out his his right paw and follow it up with a lot of sloppy kisses too.

As for Jay Singh, he seems to be a true dog-lover.
