There’s music, merlot and chocolate lessons at Pondy’s Pink Bungalow Fete

Like Wild Garden in Amethyst, Kiran Rao’s Coromandel Café in Pondicherry is already a smashing hit with leading food and travel magazines. And now, a little over a year after its launch, the restored colonial villa has a fete to match its pink walls and the building’s name, Maison Rose. The Pink Bungalow Fete, with its pop-up marketplace that includes live music, food, sustainable products and more, is head chef Jay Adams’ brainchild. And it takes place on February 9, just before the Pondicherry Heritage Festival ends (on February 11). Still wondering if the road trip is worth it? Here is what you can do:

Eat up

Sample Indian-origin organic capers from Ishka Farms in special dishes created by Chef Adams for the event. “I'm planning a crispy rice cake dotted with capers; the rest will be a surprise,” she says, adding that tapas (highlighting local produce) will be available through the day. You could also pick up moringa powder and sea salt from the Tuticorin district-based farm.

Say cheers

While Big Banyan wines are already on the restaurant’s menu, the brand is looking to expand their base in Puducherry itself. Expect generous samples of their Chenin Blanc & Shiraz, among other gems from their cellars. Stella Artois will also be serving beer samples.

Through the lens

Look out for a collection of 15 photos by Mouhamed Moustapha, an independent photographer from the region. Everyday scenes from the seaside city feature prominently, captured in his preferred greyscale aesthetic.

Accessories and music

The Burlap People will have their earthy burlap bags on display and for sale all day and will host a #soundslikeburlap session featuring live music from 5 pm onward. Shop for handloom garments made from Bengal’s textiles at Sienna Store from Kolkata.

Only 10 chocolate connoisseurs will get to be part of the tasting and dialogue session with Mason & Co. Sample the signature flavours of the single-origin dark chocolate brand that is in hip stores across the country. And stock up on other cocoa products, along with the granola and peanut butters from their Bread & Chocolate café — so go prepared to splurge! Registration compulsory. At 2.30 pm.

Zero-waste lifestyle

If you like talking trash, this one is for you: Bare Necessities is conducting a zero-waste lifestyle workshop at 4 pm. Learn to make a DIY face mask and toothpaste, and shop from their range that includes steel straws and cosmetics.

Limited seating so call 8940559024 to register for the tasting and workshop.
