Volkswagen has priced its Legend edition at ₹ 10.25 lakh, with the special edition based on the GT TSI variant to celebrate the hatchback’s 12-year journey in India. It comes powered with a 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox.

This edition also marks the current-gen Polo’s last hurrah in the Indian market before its end of production.

The Polo Legend edition is a dealer-installed kit that includes glossy black roof foil, Legend decals on the doors, black trunk garnish, and Legend fender and boot badges. The limited-edition is based on the top-spec GT TSI variant and sees no other changes to the exterior or interior. It is likely that Volkswagen will have a limited run of 700 units of the Legend.

The vehicle is powered by a 110hp, 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine mated to a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, same as the GT TSI variant.

Volkswagen launched the Polo in the Indian market in 2010, and over the years, the carmaker added new variants and launched several facelifts. The biggest update to the Polo was the introduction of the BS6-compliant 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine in March 2020. The carmaker also replaced the dual-clutch automatic with a torque-converter.

Volkswagen recently announced they would be pulling the plug on the Polo in the Indian market and would concentrate on made-for-India products such as the Taigun SUV and the upcoming Virtus sedan. There is no direct replacement planned for the Polo hatchback, although the carmaker could launch the fully imported new-generation Polo GTI in the Indian market.

The Polo rivals other premium hatchbacks such as the Honda Jazz and Hyundai i20 in the Indian market.
