You’ll miss it if you don’t keep an eye out for a hotspot of colourful graphics— the 950 square-yard expanse of Flag Autocare is hidden by trees that line JNTU Road in Hitech City. Taking a minute to check out the premises will satify a curiosity ignited by the colourful entrance.

“We’ve been around for four years, and each time we get new customers, they quite enjoy the artwork around them,” says managing director Sanjeev Reddy. “We’ve ensured the outside is done just like a normal up-to-standard auto-shop with all the decor done, but we wanted to give a different look on the inside. So we’ve got the corrugated metal walls and the visible framework to add that aesthetic.”

Grafitti galore

There’s a lived-in look as well as a firebrand-smokiness about the grafitti art that’s splashed on metal walls, reminiscent of the early Fast and Furious films. Auto terminology along with icons of tools make for a energetic atmosphere. Done by Balu, Sanjeev shares it took the artist a mere week to complete the interiors— but with such a fun project to do, one can only assume they’d want to put all their time and effort into perfecting it.

Such artwork should easily meld into the interactive work culture at Autocare and one can tell from the enthusiasm of its employees and the good humour that runs throughout the day. As a plus, you get your alignment checked or your car washed, it’s always a great way to kill some time and absorb the striking styles which surround you.

Balu has ensured that various styles of grafitti are feature: Old School to showcase the originating form, Blockbuster to create impressive murals and to engulf considerable space on the walls, Bubble to provide a youthful and fun character to the space and the classic fat-cap which switches up the typography from the usual grafitti we see.

Organised chaos

It’s notable that there’s no real organisation about the space, but the grafitti is a indicator of designated areas such as servicing, alignment, washes and spare parts. And of course, each area has its respective equipment.

Additionally, considering its mantra ‘All under one roof,’ the single space auto shop offers almost everything a vehicle owner could possibly need.

Apart from the managerial offices, there are no dividers allowing for a collective display of activity at the garage and of the interaction between employees and customers.

The rush of Hitech City could not be a better location for Flag Autocare; with the mind-numbing traffic density and the amount of concrete and glass in the area welcomes this attractive breath of fresh air.
