The first car I had ever purchased was a Mahindra Scorpio, the old model. It was a second-hand Scorpio, and as soon as I got it, I took it to get painted in a very bright salsa red — I love that colour.

It was a wonderful feeling. I also changed the music system, as music is my favourite thing in a car. I cannot drive a car that doesn’t have a good sound system. So I got a nice Kenwood fitted. I always have a nice selection of songs in my car. For my first ride, I went somewhere far with my father and we had a very nice time together.

I am a car man. I know bikes are cool, but I think cars are way cooler. A car should have the capacity to take you off roads and that is what I loved about my Scorpio. I loved that car so much that I drove it from Bhopal to Bombay.

It was the car that was with me when I started out in the (film) industry. I drove it to my first audition and practised in it. I have cried in that car when I was rejected for a role. I slammed its leather on steering in frustration. It was always there for me.

I wish that I could have kept that car. I now have my father’s Land Rover, which he gave me as a wedding gift. I like it a lot as it is a big car; I choose big cars because they have more space. I have a problem with low and sleek cars as well as convertibles.

However, my favourite car will always be the Classic Mustang. I love that iconic pony badge that makes it different from others. I also prefer other variants of four-wheel drives, but muscle cars such as the 1970 Dodge Challenger will be my pick, if not the Mustang. I hope to own one someday.
