My First Break - Nagulan

Nagulan.

Nagulan.

How it happened

I was in Standard Nine when my mother gave our family photograph to director Shankar who was looking for a boy to act in Boys . I was called for a photo session. It was only after going there that I realised there were 1,000 others waiting to be selected. After the session, I left the place with no hope of getting selected. But lo, I was called again in the afternoon and measurements for my clothes were taken. I came to know about my role only after two weeks. As I know to sing and play the keyboard, I was asked to sing a song in Boys . A Telugu film followed. Though offers came my way, I waited to play hero. When I got Kadhalil Vizhundaen, I was very happy.

How it felt

When the dubbing for Kadhalil… was on, I saw myself on the big screen and felt shy. When the film released, I watched it at Kamala with my family. When the song ‘Nakku Mukku' came on screen, the audience began to dance; I couldn't believe they liked it so much. It was a wonderful feeling that can't be described in words.

How life changed

I have so far acted in four films — one in Telugu and three in Tamil. My third film in Tamil, Masilamani , was a runaway hit. My fourth, Kantha Kottai , is to be released tomorrow. I have sung a song in the film which is already making waves. People now recognise me wherever I go and financially too, things have improved.
