A veteran in the make-up industry for 20 years, Klara Sabotkoski knew what her customers needed very early on. Her aim has been to create products that are suitable to every skin tone but, most importantly, those that are cruelty-free. “I wanted my skin to breathe and the colours to match,” says the founder of Australian-based Klara Cosmetics (KC) adding that she doesn’t want her patrons to transform into someone new with her make-up but to enhance what they already have. “I wanted an eyeshadow [and lipstick] that I could put on and forget about. That’s where my passion came from,” says the make-up mogul.

This month, Sabotkoski brought Klara Cosmetics to the city where it’s retailing at Sephora. According to the founder, her make-up has an edge over other brands because of two reasons. Its boasts of a 100% pigmentation promise, where the products are so so rich in pigments, that one dab will keep gliding on. Then there’s the brand’s unique offering. “There’s a hologram on the products’ packaging,” says Vivek Bali, CEO Sephora India. “Scan it on your phone and [get access to a video tutorial].”

KC will retail a range of contour pallettes, highlighters, bronzers, lipsticks, foundations, press powders, eyeliners, mascaras and more. But a few of the brand’s products are incredibly popular abroad. A particular bestseller is the Reset Instant New Skin (₹2,310), a water-infused gel with a formula that’s akin to a microdermabrasion treatment. It buffs away dead cells while exfoliating and moisturising your skin.

Then there’s the G Glow Bronzer (₹2,310) for a sunkissed look. Of note are the foundations (₹2,675 onwards) including the stick variant that doubles up as a concealer; the eight-in-one CC (colour correcting) cream foundation; and light foundation that prevents clogged pores. A bestselling product remains the Kiss Proof long-wear lipstick range, (₹1,575 onwards) that sets in 60 seconds.

For the Indian consumer, Sabotkoski recommends the 03 (Passion Pink) and 05 (Flaming Red) lipstick shades and the Desert Rose, Coachella, and Burning Man pro-eyeshadows.

Klara Cosmetics products start at ₹1,575. Sephora at Palladium (40045180) and Phoenix Market City (66513007)
