In an area where it gets tough to distinguish one IT firm from another, it’s refreshing to spot ZenQ’s unique office space on the 11th floor of the Vega building at Ascendas IT Park. A company that was established in 2003 at Cyberpearl, Madhapur, it has branched out into multiple spaces in the same vicinity over the decade. True to their name, it’s the Japanese elements that work as a calming influence in their workspace. Many antique objects and artefacts here were in fact purchased (retained) from the previous occupants at the workspace, Rhythm and Hues. The space that’s a second home to about 250 employees scores on subtlety and vibrancy too.
Given ZenQ celebrated it’s annual day Sparkz only recently, there are a handful of decorative elements, where Genie, their mascot appeals. On an elevated platform is their reception, that reflects more Indian ethos than Japanese. It’s also the wooden furniture that contributes to its aesthetics. The colours surrounding the workstations are brighter in contrast to the other sections of the space (where the hues are mellowed). There’s enough open space around the work area and diversity among the meeting rooms (which are named after planets and galaxies-the smallest one’s called Pluto).
At the other end of the workspace, there are collaborative spaces modelled like a hut and fish bowl, the architecture is impressive enough to enhance the work environs. A space that’s meditative is the reading room, which gives out a sprawling view of the Hitec City area and helps employees break away from work stress. Most frequented is of course the sports room during lunch hours despite limited options besides the open space with a large photograph of Charminar adding a local touch to the atmosphere. Other impressive spots include the mini-auditorium (that also serves as a training room) where movies are screened every Friday while the occasional artwork and Buddha idols stay true to the company’s design. There are masks too, which the CEO Murali says a reflection of how we mask our personality at work.
The integrated design is a fruit of the efforts of the core-committee and employees, and the reason the boss always feels accessible and the communication remains transparent. Birthdays are a time where there’s a new lease of energy in the environs and specific teams take up responsibilities to embellish an employee’s workstation.
“The office works for me in a holistic perspective, the infrastructure, the approachability of the higher management, the selfies we take at the reading room,” reveals an employee J Sharanya, who also takes an active part in the firm’s CSR division. Her colleague Kalyani agrees, adding that the office feels like home for the amount of time they spend here, “Every little detail adds up to the charm. Working on various projects, I am at different places in different times of the office.”
Team ZenQ will shift to a three-floor 100000 square feet workspace by end of 2017 to accomodate all its employees.
