Steelcase Hyderabad’s compact office located on the third floor of Silver Statue, Road No. 36 of Jubilee Hills makes an impressive statement on making the most of whatever little resources are available.

The 105-year-old firm headquartered in Michigan, USA, provides workspace solutions (furniture, workstations and work spaces) opened its Hyderabad office six years ago. Their repertoire includes their contributions to the office spaces of IBM, Microsoft and several global counterparts. The 1400 square feet space comprises many attention-worthy elements. The use of unconventional colours is a perfect blend to the quirky yet adaptable furniture.

Among the firsts that Anurag Khandelwal, the Senior Regional Market Manager shows us is the gesture chair. With a 360 degree handle that syncs in with the hand movements of an employee, it adapts itself into a resting chair (like a recliner) corresponding to their position.

Another unique element here is the i2i collaborative chair, that ensures better eye contact between people due to its dual swivel mechanism. You trust Anurag’s words when he says that the firm’s primary aim is to make a workplace feel like home.

Another side of the office features a display of fabrics that the client might choose for an office space, the wide spectrum of colours here add an interesting dimension to the space. The choice of navy blue, yellow, magenta, red, orange and purple colours with the furniture leaves you spoilt for choice. Right next to it is another seating space; the stool is structured to blend into it.

Though individual workstations do exist here, the emphasis remains to make the space democratic.

The meeting room is a conventional one, but if the boss is in a mood to shun formalities, the media scape comes in handy, also a space where people make presentations in a more unified atmosphere. The mini-cafeteria is as compact as the name. The glass (quotes like ‘love how you work’ are mood-boosters) ensures a fascinating view of the ever-busy Road No. 36 stretch and brightens up the office space. With smart furniture and enough open space, Steelcase’s interiors succeed in ensuring an interconnected atmosphere.

“Engaging people’s emotions brings about better connections between people and fosters a sense of team bonding. This makes it important to support frequent movement throughout the day for physical and mental vigour. All of these aspects promote social interactions that stimulate the brain and improve creativity,” adds Praveen Rawal, Managing Director, South East Asia and India.
