When you walk in the newly opened Wok Republic, one can’t help but notice the riot of colours used to design the interiors. Each rustic table is teamed with vibrantly coloured chairs. Above these tables hang warm yellow lights that are enclosed in wooden boxes painted in shades of greens, blues and pinks.
Wok Republic is the new addition to the list of pan-Asian restaurants in the city. Opened on June 27, the restaurant is located in Balaji Nagar near Siripuram and serves Indian, Chinese, Thai, Malaysian and Indonesian cuisine. From paneer from the Indian platter to dim sums and flat noodles from China, the menu incorporates a bit from each of these cuisines.
As I walk into the restaurant on a breezy Thursday afternoon, I am welcomed by peppy music and the aroma of manchow soup. Going with the dull weather outside, I choose a table away from the bright lights near a large television that is streaming the ongoing Pro Kabbadi League.
From a long menu that dishes out soups, salads, starters, main course and beverages, the option of DIY noodles catches my eye. The restaurant gives you an option of customising your noodles by choosing the type of noodles, toppings for it and the sauce. Wok republic offers three types of noodles - butter garlic noodles, hawker noodles and flat noodles. If you are not much of a noodle fan you can also pick from white rice and brown rice. These can be teamed with a variety of toppings from the list such as fish, prawns, paneer, mushrooms, tofu and chicken.
A fan of spicy food, I pick the hawker noodles, which I am told is the spiciest on the list. I team this with chicken tossed in k ung pao sauce. From the list of starters I choose paneer cooked in mirin and red chillies.
After a wait of 10 minutes comes my spread of two starters and the noodles. A bite into the paneer and my sleepy senses are awakened by the flavours of soya sauce with a hint of hotness from the chillies (It was 2 pm on a rainy day, of course I was sleepy!). The chicken wings that are bathed in a greasy sauce of spices turn out to be crispy and juicy but are no match to the paneer.

The hawker noodles are generously peppered with sliced capsicum, carrots and onions. This is served along the kung pao sauce which is a delicate blend of the heat from Szechuan pepper and the sweetness of honey vinegar.
In all, the place attempts to serve everything you love from the Asian platter under one roof.
