Some good old continental food served with oodles of happiness quotient – that’s Brew N Bistro for you. This newly opened restaurant at Lawsons Bay Colony is a cheerful little spot in the town. Quirky interiors, cosy seating arrangements, a tiny book shelf, a wall of thought clouds and a delicious array of continental spread sum up the essence of this place.

The entrance of this cosy restaurant is as warm and inviting as the interiors. As we enter, rows of hanging lanterns and an image of a bicycle against the white wall with a few quirky notes scattered here and there on the wall greet us.

In spite of being just a little over a week old, Vizag’s latest bistro has been busy even on a weekday lunch hour. The brainchild of chartered accountant P. Swaroop and his family, this small place is a ground floor portion of their house turned into a restaurant. With a young team of chefs, mainly from Hyderabad, the largely continental menu pizzas, pastas, salads and sandwiches, apart from starters and hot and cold beverages.

We begin our meal with my all-time-favourite of the fish and chips – a dish which has often disappointed me in the limited city hotels and restaurants that offer it. While it still isn’t in the most authentic form at Brew N Bistro, the combination of crunchy coating and tenderness of the fish makes more an appetising start. The chicken cheese balls with a cheesy-tangy cocktail sauce make a pleasing starter after the fish and chips.

On a hot afternoon, this cosy restaurant may be a perfect place to relax over some good conversations and a delectable food. While the book shelf is stacked with bestseller categories with a tiny chess board and a game of jenga, it is the wall ahead that catches my attention. This is the restaurant’s ‘happy’ corner, a place where visitors get to click selfies and write their feelings on the thought cloud.

Next, we order the restaurant’s B n b signature chicken pasta. It comes with a combination of tomato and cheese sauces. Perfect in flavour, it is the highlight of the menu. After this comes the high point of the experience – the mango and chilli flakes slushie. On a hot sweltering summer day, nothing beats the divine feeling of gulping down icy mangoes with a mild spicy tinge of chillies in the throat.

The restaurant also offers English breakfast options. It is open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Brew N Bistro is located at Lawsons Bay Colony, Pedda Waltair (opposite Shanthi Ashram).
