As a young mother, Priyanka Shetty Sridhar followed every rule of motherhood. But, when her child was old enough to be introduced to solids, she was a little at a loss. “Normally, we dig into traditional recipes and sometimes turn to supermarkets. But when I became a mother myself, I realised we did not have many snacks for babies. We have the regular infant formula and baby porridges. But when it came to introducing solids, it was mostly the option of homemade food.”

So she started her own brand called Mimmo Organics.

“Our baby food products are certified as organic and so are the ingredients used. Mimmo Organics meets the US and EU quality grade on organic standards and are accredited by the USDA, EU Organic and India Organic as certified organic,” explains Priyanka, who adds their production centres in Europe are “also certified by GFCI accredited system on food safety including IFS, BRC and FSSC 22000 certification”.

She also comes with an experience of heading the paediatric division for British Biologicals, besides an MSc in biotechnology and an MBA from Australia.

“That was also a time I travelled to Australia and discovered the vast range of infant food products – most ready-to-use and organic in nature.”

Soon she started her own R&D and when she looked at the ingredients, discovered “the technology used to make those products gave the option to get rid of the preservatives. Most products were designed to introduce textures and food tastes for a growing infant,” adds Priyanka.

Mimmo Organics has teething wafers, which “will melt in the child’s mouth. They are not overly sweet. These can be started off for a seven-month-old child and go on till the child is five or older.”

There is also baby pasta, that can be cooked the usual way once it is boiled. These come in carrot, spinach and beetroot flavours and another variety comes in the form of tiny alphabet

“The pasta can be added to soups, boiled daal water or cooked in a sauce of your choice.

Ragi, millets, buckwheat and whole wheat are some of the ingredients that go into these snacks,” explains Priyanka.
