Kovilpatti is a major town in Thoothukudi district in the south of Tamil Nadu.
The town is known as a hub for producing matchsticks and also for its famous peanut candy, known as the kovilpatti kadalai mittai.
This candy has now gained more prominence - it was recently awarded a GI tag. Some shops in Kovilpatti have been making kadalai mittai for over half a century.
