On a Saturday morning, as early as 7.30 am, I, along with family, make my way to Fuel, a new place in town that serves Continental breakfast. Despite us reaching there early, the tables are nearly all occupied.
The menu, while limited, is interesting. There are waffles, pancakes, French toast, Spanish omelettes, Polish Breakfast (chicken sausage, scrambled eggs, hash brown and fresh slices of apple)... We order an English and an American breakfast. For choice of eggs, we are offered scrambled, poached and fried ones, and we pick a scrambled and a fried.
The pancakes, part of the American breakfast, arrive first. A three-layer stack with slices of ripe bananas in between and maple syrup on top. They are fluffy and have just the right amount of sweetness.
The English breakfast, meanwhile, has a choice of egg, sausages, bacon, toast, a hash brown, which could do with a bit more seasoning, and baked beans. Now, I like a spread of butter and jam on my toast and was disappointed when it wasn’t part of my meal. Nevertheless, the American breakfast saves the day. The two eggs that accompany it make it a tad too filling though. (By the way, fried egg means the sunny side up at this joint.) The Tahini cocoa beanie I order as beverage is a mix of cocoa blended with tahini, banana, honey and almond milk — perfect for chocoholics like me. A strong coffee later and I am fuelled for the day.
When I drop in on Sunday, the place is packed. As the beverages seem to be coming in quick, I order a Basil lush (a mix of pineapple, lemon, mango, basil and yoghurt) and am soon ordering a second. The Sherbet Lemonade (apple and lemon) I take a sip of is refreshing, while the Creamacado (avocado, yoghurt, milk, honey) lives up to its name with its creamy smooth texture.
Fuel, opposite SunTec at Kuravankonam, runs from Tuesday to Sunday. The eatery is open from 7.30 am to 11 am on weekdays and from 7.30 am to 2 pm on weekends. Reservations are advised, especially on weekends. Contact: 07012564199
