Ahoy Bistro offers a relaxed ambience along with food that is comforting and lip-smacking

A small dome-shaped baked yoghurt, with a dash of cheese cream on the side, a couple of fresh orange rinds, a few strawberries casually scattered and finished with a fresh and sprightly twig of aniseed delicately resting over it. Why would you want to eat baked yoghurt at Ahoy Bistro restaurant, especially when you can eat mishti doi anytime at home.

Well, here’s the catch: the dessert may be called baked yoghurt but has a lot of other elements that go into it before being shoved inside the oven for more than a few flash minutes.

This dessert isn’t just delectably attractive, it is a heavenly mouthful with a endearing soft texture, not cold like an ice cream. With a sweetness that allows all the other flavours of milk, cream cheese and the fruits to play their parts, making for a perfect symphony of flavours in your mouth.

Ahoy Bistro in Medchal might seem like the back of beyond for people who live in Gachibowli. The brave ones who love traffic adventures for a night out wouldn’t mind covering the distance to enjoy the peace and quiet that Ahoy’s spacious surroundings offer.

The bistro itself is cosy, good enough to fit around 100 people, but it is the open area that wins your heart on a warm summer evening; the fans and coolers there beat the heat with a clear open sky — a rarity in Hyderabad. With the IPL season on, cricket lovers are having a fantastic time munching on finger food, cheering and chugging their signature cocktails.

As for the food at Ahoy, we suggest you go for the comfort food. Portion sizes are big, making it value for money. The restaurant prides itself on the dishes its chefs bring to the table. The food is just 50% of what one gets, their immaculate presentation makes up for the rest. But if you are seeking healthy stuff, diners are advised to clearly state their ‘low salt’ preference.

Starters here were fun. We ordered crispy kodi (chicken) fry with a flavourful Andhra masala. Deep fried, crispy and tossed in regional spices makes this starter an instant favourite. I totally loved the thought that they serve spicy colocasia chips. The chicken wings however, have scope to improve with a better recipe for a spicy flavouring in which to be set. The current one’s taste gives away that it is a store bought one. But the chatpata , well-done Indian spiced lamb ribs make up for everything amiss. The pasta gave no room for complaints and neither did the grilled chicken and butter chicken masala (again, this last was a little salty).

If you are dessert lover with a high tolerance for sugar, skip the beautiful baked yoghurt and go for the pizzookie, a giant freshly-baked chocolate cookie served with a drizzle of chocolate sauce and a dollop of vanilla ice cream. It can give you a high.
