Biryani lovers will agree with every line of what Ahmed Shariff is singing. The ‘biryani anthem’ — a parody of Ed Sheeran’s Shape of you is now the talk of the town. The video which crossed the two million mark within 24 hours of going online, is made by the Bengaluru-based stand-up comedian, Ahmed Shariff along with Sanjay Manaktala and Praveen Kumar.

The over three-minute video is all about biryani and things biryani lovers do to get their biryani fix. Biryani lovers are tagging each other on social media to the video and having a ball confessing their love for biryani.

The video begins with every club crawler’s rues. Clubbing is fun, clubbing is cool, but that ain’t the best place to grab your food. Agree? So, do Ahmed and his gang. With this they begin confessing their love for biryani and in a way talking for million others that no matter where you go to grab your dinner, it’s biryani hardly anyone says no.

Ahmed says as a group of stand-up comedians it is their constant effort to make videos and memes. To make them viral is important, so is entertainment. “So as a stand-up comedian, I pick the two most favourite topics and mix it. In the case of ‘biryani anthem’, it is biryani and the Shape of you , by Ed Shareen, which is an anthem at the moment. I just mixed the two to express the biryani love,” he says.

The team worked on it for about a month and all of them gave their inputs to make sure nothing about biryani is left behind. The video has several comic moments about bulging waistlines and love for biryani, attending a Muslim wedding mostly for the awesome free biryani, visiting a Muslim friend only with the hope of relishing a plate of homemade biryani and poking fun at the stereotypes that Muslim households only cook biryani everyday.

On the sidelights, if you thought you were the only one who hate the idea of biting into an elaichi with that morsel of rice and meat, you are mistaken. That seems to be the problem of all biryani eaters. When it comes to biryani will Hyderabad not get a mention? The artistes list out biryanis from different states and Hyderabadi biryani tops the list. They argue about veg biryani not being a biryani and if you are a non-veg biryani eater, you will find yourself nodding your head in approval.
